It is no longer a secret that cloud computing is the way of the future. According to Gartner, cloud services are now used by about 94% of organizations, valuing the global market at nearly $372 billion. And that's only the start.

What is a Cloud Engineer?

Cloud Engineers design remote networks that enable organizations to communicate and share data, conduct comprehensive data analysis, backup data, and even test and develop applications. They design a cloud architecture capable of supporting many users and managing vast volumes of data. One of the primary responsibilities of a Cloud Engineer is to examine an organization's business plan to build a solution that meets its requirements.

Skills required for a Cloud Engineer

The following skills are required to work as a Cloud Engineer:

1.     Knowledge of operating systems

Cloud Engineers may engage in various technical environments, necessitating a strong knowledge of operating systems such as Linux, Ubuntu, and Windows.

2.     Networking

A solid understanding of networking concepts is required to build a robust and reliable cloud-based solution. A Cloud Engineer must know VPN, DNS, TCP, Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), and Content Delivery Network (CDN).

3.     Programming language

Cloud Engineers must be familiar with programming or scripting languages to do all job-related tasks. Some of the programming languages are Python, Perl, Ruby, and Java.

4.     Security skills

Building a safe cloud environment is one of the top concerns for almost all enterprises. Working knowledge of numerous security protocols and methods, including firewalls and identity access control, is necessary for the operation of the Cloud Engineer.

5.     API and web services

Building a robust core for a cloud architecture necessitates paying particular attention to its underlying base. Understanding web services and APIs can be beneficial when integrating apps over the internet.

6.     Communication skills

Collaboration between Cloud Engineers, other IT experts, and business stakeholders is common. Using crystal-clear, concise verbal and written communication, those with excellent communication skills may ensure an accurate and efficient flow of information.

7.     Leadership skills

Cloud Engineers may be in control of a team of IT specialists, including those who support them when using the cloud. To help each team member progress, good leaders can help them recognize their teammates' talents, limitations, and motivations.
